❗️UPDATED EMAIL❗️Take Photos of EVERYONE You Love! 📸❤️

❗️UPDATED EMAIL❗️

The formatting of the last email was all messed up, I am so sorry! We had some technical difficulties 😂

Here's how it's supposed to look:

Dear Photographer (and Creative),

Whether you consider yourself a photographer or not, pleeease take photos of EVERYONE you love.

I laid my father to rest last month.

I spent 2 weeks designing his funeral program.

Mostly because the design options that the funeral director showed us were ugly 😂

Here's how it turned out.

I also spent those 2 weeks scanning the BAGILLION family photos we had, so I could put them in a slideshow that would play during the funeral.

He was my biggest fan. My #1 cheerleader.

So it was only right that I stepped up as the family photographer to make everything look perfect.

The day of the funeral was bittersweet because I got to see family that I hadn’t seen in YEARS.

Some flew in from California and Alaska, others spent hours driving up from down south.

“Who knows when it'll be the next time we're all in the same room again?” I thought to myself.

So after the funeral, l urged everyone to come to my studio so l could take photos of the family before they leave.

I realize now more than ever just how important being a photographer is.

  • We don't take family pictures with wind up cameras anymore.
  • Photo albums filled with memories are almost a thing of the past.
  • We don't even think twice to PRINT the photos we take on our phones.

And personally, I had a hard time FINDING photos of certain family members to put in the slideshow because they rarely take any photos. I had to grab some from their Facebook! 😭

It's sad yet eye-opening.

So here's my message to you:

Take photos of EVERYONE you love.

You never know when it'll be the last time you're all in the same room.

You never know when it'll be the last time you see them alive again.

If your parents are still alive, take professional shots of them while you can.

I had to use a photo of my dad from 10 years ago for his funeral program, because that was the last decent photo I took of him.

It is an HONOR to be the family photographer.

It's a responsibility you never signed up for, but something that everyone in your family (including yourself) will appreciate and value forever. Even if they don't like photos of themselves...take them anyways! Lol

You're literally preserving family history, memories, and seasons of life that we all take for granted.

So keep shooting, and shoot EVERYTHING.

Talk soon,

Kyra

P.S. Keep the bad photos too.

Know what your skill level is, and be real with yourself. A great way to do this is to look up 5 photographers in your niche and compare your skill level to their skill level. Not in a degrading way, but analyze and be honest about where you are as a photographer—beginner, intermediate, or professional. And then charge...

Pricing Series: Pt. 1 Let’s talk about how to NOT be the cheapest photographer on the block Definition of 'cheap': Low in price Inexpensive Depreciated in value Of inferior quality or worth Examples of Cheap Behavior: Charging $250 for a 2-hour photoshoot and 30 edited photos Going over time in a photoshoot and not charging the client extra (guilty! 🖐🏽) Editing a photo 3 more times when the client asks for more revisions, and you don't charge them enough or charge them at all Matching or...

Hey dude! Let me tell you about a lesson I learned over the weekend. You have to subtract...before you add! 😂 My math isn't correct according to PEMDAS but stay with me! I went clothes shopping on Black Friday. I'm not the type to participate in Black Friday, but I've recently lost weight so I had to get new clothes. I'm a "this will do" type of person when it comes to clothes. Most of my clothes are "functional" rather than fashionable, black (probably because I'm a photographer), and I've...
